Retirement cottages in Akaroa
“Cheerful cottages designed for carefree retirment, in a companionable and pleasant village setting” are being offered, on lease, for $31,000 apiece in Akaroa. The Pompalier Trust Board now wants applications from retired people for the nine units which form the nucleus of the scheme. It is offering the lease on each unit at $2OOO less than the original price. The Akaroa community, the local churches and others have helped in the site preparation, landscaping, and accommodating and catering for the workmen building the units. The village, which began as a joint project of the local Roman Catholic and Anglican parishes .includes nine units, an 11bed home for the aged, and a village green, all set in the heart of Akaroa. Several firm applications have been received for the units.
