GRAND PRIX The next major road race in Canterbury will be the New Zealand grand prix at Ruapuna Park on March 26. Championship points in all classes will be at stake. Official practice is scheduled for March 25. Trevor Discombe (TZ7SO Bakker-Yamaha) is expected to defend his open
title. One of his chief rivals will be the winner of the New Zealand open championship series last season, Rodger Freeth (TZ7SO Yamaha), of Auckland. who will be remembered for his experiments with aerofoils on motor-cycles. Freeth was the first New Zealand rider without experience overseas to finish in the recent Marlboro international series. T.T. TITLE The New Zealand lightweight (250 cu cm) T.T. road race championship, which was originally to have been held at the Porirua meeting, has now been reallocated and will
be held by the Manawatu Orion club at its national points meeting at Manfeild on March 4. The final championship road racing meeting of the season will be the Hamilton grand prix on April I. CONFERENCE The annual conference of the New Zealand Auto Cycle Union will be held at Johnsonville on April 22 and 23. The 1979 venue has not yet been allocated ISLAND SELECTOR Mr Bill Cambell, of Christchurch has regained his position of South Island moto-cross selector. A stalwart of the New Brighton Moto-cross Club, he acted as manager last season when Mr Alister Sabiston replaced him as selector.
