Air Force men to retire this month

Two Royal New Zealand Air Force officers based at Wigi m will retire this mon,, i. Warrant Officer T. T. Goodare, aged 46, will retire after 26 years service, and Wing Commander D. G. McAllister, aged 42, will retire after 20 years service.

Warrant Officer Goodare has been the base warrant officer at Wigram since 1975, overseeing discipline and public relations.

He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1951, enlisting in the radio trade. He progressed through the ranks to warrant officer in 1972. His service has taken him to most New Zealand bases and to Fiji (Lauthala Bay), Singapore, Tahiti, and the

United States. He went to Tahiti in connection with the British bomb tests at Christmas Island.

He has occupied several supervisory positions, culminating in an apointment as warrant officer in charge of avionics (aircraft electronics) in 1972. In 1974, he became an examiner at the Trade Test Board for the avionics trade. Warrant officer Good-

are, who is married, with a family, plans to work for the Electricity Department in the radio field after he retires. Wing Commander McAl-

lister is officer commanding the flying training wing at Wigram. He began flying training with the University Training Squadron in 1953. After joining the R.N.Z.A.F. he graduated as a pilot in 1958.

H e flew Bristol Freighters during the emergency in Malaya, 1959-61, during which he was awarded a green endorsement for showing great skill in an aircraft emergency. He was attached to the United States Navy at McMurdo in 1962 and he was one of the first R.N.Z.A.F. pilots to gain experience in Hercules aircraft. Wing Commander McAllister was also the commanding officer at the Central Flying School. He received the M.B.E. in 1974. He is married, With two children, and plans to grow citrus fruit in Northland.
