P.M. to be witness
PA Auckland The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) will be a witness for the plaintiffs in a SIM writ against the Government.
The plaintiffs are shareholders of Matai Industries, Ltd, the West Coast company which went into receivership in February, 1974. Mr Muldoon was a director of the company. They allege breach of contract by the Government when the late Mr Kirk was Prime Minister.
The writ, taken out almost two years ago, cites the Government and its agents. They include Mr Kirk, the Leader of .the Opposition (Mr Rowling) who was then Minister of Finance and the Minister of Trade and Indus-
i try (Mr W. W. Freer). Also named are the Treasury and the Department of Trade and Industry. The action will be heard in the Supreme Court at Wellington. The writ, served on the Solicitor-General (Mr R. C. Savage, Q.C.) as representative of the Crown, claims SIM.
This was the paid-up capital in Matai Industries. The plaintiffs are the founder of the company, Kevin Francis Meates, three other members of the Meates family and Roy John Connell, of Greymouth. Also named as plaintiffs are Torro International, Ltd, Insulex Plastics, Ltd, and Parker Industries, Ltd.
