Mr Justice Somers re- 1 manded both accused on bail 1 to February 24 for sentence. 1 Sampson and Voice 1 pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to joint charges of rob- i bing Mr O’Connell of $lOO, ' seven dozen bottles of beer I and motor-cycle parts. Mr N, W. Williamson ap- 1
peared for the Crown, Mr R. J. Murfitt for Sampson and Mr L. M. O’Reilly for Voice. Evidence was given that the charges arose out of a visit of members of the Epitaph Riders motor-cycle gang to a house in Huxley Street late on the evening of August 6. Mr O’Connell, aged 21, a shearer, was kicked and punched and was hit over the back with a heavy object. On the application of Mr Panckhurst Mr O’Connell was granted suppression of his name until the end of the trial because he had fears for his safety.
