Socialists’ view of New Zealand
Sir, —Surely nobody can be more inconsistent than the present leaders of the Labour Party. Three examples are enough. Since 1938 they have vehemently denied they were socialists, yet Mr Rowling accepts the post of leader of Pacific socialists. They object to the extra tax on heavy trade vehicles and would repeal it, yet willingly banged 21 cents on petrol in 1975 to go into the Consolidated Revenue Account. They formerly had had a “gutsful” of strikes and protests, yet we see them actively taking part today. How can these men be trusted?—Yours, etc., J. C. KING. December 23, 1977.
