Girls drop assault complaints
i pa Wellington : The police say their inquires have shown that allegations of assault made by two jgiris against two Lower Hutt (traffic officers are not justified. j Inspector J. M. Quill said (that both complaints had ’been withdrawn. The allegations related to lan incident at Taita on October 28 in which the girls asserted that they wera attacked by the traffic officers. Inspector Quill said one or the girls had withdrawn her written complaint and tho other had telephoned tha police to say that she did not iwish to proceed. The polica were endeavouring to get in I touch with her for formal of this in (writing. Inspector Quill said. I "Our inquiries show that the officers concerned wera faced with a ticklish situation and that they conducted themselve as they should have,” he said. However, while inquiries relating to the women’s allegations had been completed, the police were studying other aspects of the incident, which involved a number of persons, and charges might be laid as a result.
