Salvaro disappoints at Motukarara

If Salvaro is going to keep her winning record intact when she contests the Jam-s Hazlett Stakes at Wingatui on Saturday — she was successful at Hokitika last time out — she will have to improve markedly on her performance in the sprint for class one. two and three horses at the Riccarton Turf Ciub's qualifying and harrier trials held at Motukarara yesterday. Salvaro, after disputing the pace with Greek Magic to the straight in yesterday s 1200-metre event, was under pressure early in the run home and only just managed to last to dead-heat for fourth with her stabiemate, Sparrowhawk, the tail-ender most of the way in the fivehorse field. Honours in the event went to the Richmond-trained Cracker Day, which improved two places in the run home to beat Greek Magic by a head. Stoney Topaz which tracked Salvaro to the straight, was a length back third with a similar distance to the dead-heaters. Despite yesterday’s disappointing effort Salvarc could still take beating at Wingatui. The run, with the

pace on all the way, would probably do more good than harm. Among the lesser-lights with engagements at Wingatui none impressed more ‘yesterday than Cheswick Tara and Gundagai. rivals in it he first division of iSaturday ' s Warrington [Handicap.
