N.Z. pacer fifth

NZPA Washington The New Zealand pacer, Testing Times, finished fifth in a $50,000 final of a three-race series for two-year-olds at Roosevelt Raceway, New York, on Saturday night. The outside barrier in the eight-horse field was largely responsible for his failure to be placed. The horse, driven by his owner-tramer, Kevin Holmes, was three wide on the first turn and was never in the picture. The youngster got caught in behind and was well off the pace as the field turned for home. He made up ground in the straight but was about five lengths behind the winner, Wellwood Hanover, at the line. Testing Times had beaten Wellwood Hanover in a heat a week before and prior to that had run second in the opening heats. Wellwood Hanover was timed at 2min I.6sec in very cold conditions. Testing Times earned $3OOO.
