Council for aged needs money
The Department of Health will be asked to provide urgent financial help to the Canterbury Aged People’s Welfare Council.
A request from the council for help in averting a serious financial problem was made to the institutions committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday. The council had hoped to gain some financial help from funds allocated to tfie hospital board by the Government for community health care. However, the board is unable to use these funds to help the council and therefore a special request will be sent to the department for urgent action.
A shortage of funds has forced the council to dismiss one of its social workers.
