Hopes for Chilean trade

Parliamentary reporter The hope that trade between New Zealand and Chile will open up again before long was expressed last evening by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Talboys).

Asked what he thought about the arrival of a Chilean trade deputation in New Zealand, Mr Talbovs said: “I wish them well. I do not like to see chances of trade with Chile going begging. I fear that if they cannot get what they want here they will go elsewhere—and that will be bad for New Zealanders." New Zealand and Australia are now the only two countries which have closed their doors to Chilean fade This has been done through the labour organisation in both countries. Asked if he had expressed his views to the Federation of Labour, Mr Taiboys said: “I have told them so many times.’’
