Readers of “The Press” are offered a special opportunity of travelling to Canada next year to see the Xlth Commonwealth Games at Edmonton. The 23-day escorted tour, which is being organised by “The Press,” includes the spectacular rail Journey through the Canadian Rockies from Vancouver to Banff and coach travel along the Icefields Parkway to Jasper. Stopovers will be made at Nandi, Vancouver,
Banff. Los Angeles, and Honolulu. The airlines will be Air New Zealand and CP Air. The tour cost of $1769 (plus $B7 travel tax), on a share-twin basis, covers all accommodation and air fares from Christchurch and return, rail and coach fares, transfers, and complimentary tickets to Disneyland. Meals and admission to the Games are not included. The cost is reducible to $1599 (plus travel tax) if three people agree to share a room, and chil-
dren under 12 can join the tour for $1049 (plus travel tax). The tour will leave from Christchurch on Friday, July 28 and return on Sunday, August 20. Although the Games are still nine months away, “The Press” is promoting this tour now to ensure that members of the group gain admission to as many events of their choice as is possible. Reports from Edmonton show that some events, such as the final nights of the swimming, weight-
lifting, boxing and gymnastics are already sold out.
Accommodation in Edmonton for the period of the Games is also difficult to find. Accommodation is reserved for “The Press” group.
For these reasons, “The Press” supporters’ tour will be restricted in size. Allocations will be made as confirmed bookings are received. Further details of the tour appear on Page 24, in “Tuesday Travel” this morning.
