Noise limit on cars
PA Wellington i Owners or manufacturers! of new cars coming on to the road from July 1 next year face a fine of up to, $2OO if the Ministry of < Transport finds the vehicles! too noisy.
July 1 is the date from which noise limits under the 1976 traffic regulations are introduced, and the Minister of Transport (Mr McLachlan) said that vehicles would be monitored from then. It would be up to car manufacturers to make sure their vehicles met the international test when new. Any car covered by the regulations when new must remain within the specified limits if later modified, he said.
