Bodies found in car in river

The bodies of two Christchurch men missing for more than a fortnight were discovered near Jacksons, on the West Coast, on Saturday afternoon. The men were Dennis Menzies, aged 27. single, of Vauxhall Street. Bishopdale; and Geoffrey Charles Barr, aged 27, of the same address. They had been listed as missing since October 14 when they left Christchurch to travel by car to

a sports function on the West Coast. The car, and both bodies, w’ere discovered by a resident at Rocky Point, near Jacksons, early on Saturday afternoon. The car was found about 75 metres down the bank of the Taramakau River, about 20 metres from the road. On Saturday the car. a Ford Falcon, was towed a distance along the riverbed for recovery later, but it was washed away after heavy rain that night.
