Good golf scoring
NZPA Adelaide The 850,000 West Lakes golf classic got under way at the Grange east course yesterday, With 15 players carding under 70 and 32 ending the first round at par or better. The early players had the best conditions and the Victorian, lan Stanley, and Western Australian. Terry’ Gale, share the lead on five-under-par 66s after an early start. The highlight of the round came from the American, Bob Byman. who fought back after a disastrous nine at a relatively
easy third hole. He carded a 40 on the first nine and a blistering 30 on the home nine for a 70. One of the best rounds of the day come from the 1969 U.S. Masters winner, George Archer, who fired a 63 in his first time around the course. After 14 holes the Victorian. Bob Shearer, was only two better than par but he shot two more birdies to finish on 67. Graham Marsh was a disappointment and appeared to struggle for 70 Greg Norman, who scored a runaway win last year, was another disapopintment with a 72.
