Decision on pitch delayed

No final decision has been made as to the availability of a suitable pitch at Lancaster Park on November 19, for the Gillette Cup match between Canterbury and the winner of the Otago and Central Districts match. The chairman of the Canterbury Cricket Association (Mr L. J. Knowles) said yesterday that he had inspected the block with Mr Alan Williams, the summer chairman of the Victory Park Board, and the groundsman, Mr Cyril Barnes.

Mr Knowles said that with the enthusiasm being shown by Mr Barnes and with fine weather over the next few weeks, he was hopeful that a pitch, perhaps at the edge of the block, would be ready by November 19.
