Varied entry for ‘Press’ golf
Notable cricketers and footballers, a diplomat, and some top Canterbury golfers are among the latest additions to the field for “The Press” Garden City Celebrity Golf Classic, to be played at Harewood on November 17 and 18. Entries have been received from five New Zealand cricketers — Bevan Con« gdon, Dick Motz, Maurice Ryan, Mark Burgess and Terry Jarvis — and the Canterbury player, Paul McEwan.
A former All Black, Derek Arnold, has joined the field, as have the Freyberg Rose Bowl golfers, Dennis Beggs
and Geoff Saunders, and the Russell Grace representatives, Sue Bishop and Vai Cullen. The diplomat is Mr Bill Letich, the Australian Consul General in New Zealand. The organiser (Mr A. G. Edwards) said yesterday the tournament was mainly for amateurs, and entries were being accepted from individuals as well as from teams of four. Money raised by the tournament will be devoted to the provision of Jaws of Life equipment for use by the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
