Picton firm to rent cars in Chch

A rental-car firm based in Picton has been granted a new licence by the No 9 Transport Licensing Authority to run 20 cars in Christchurch. Gateway Rentals, Ltd, of High Street, Picton, has been given a new rental service licence to run an extra 10 cars during the summer from November I to April 30. The vehicles will be used from 160 Tuam Street. The authority reserved its decision on an application from Canterbury and Alpine Travel, Ltd, for an amendment to its passenger service licence to allow the carriage of tour groups for the purpose of rafting and canoeing on suitable Canterbury and Westland rivets. The decision was reserved to permit the licence to be rewritten. The company appealed that the vehicle be permitted to tow a trailer for the cartage of tour and

river equipment and also applied for the use of an extra mini-bus capable of carrying 12 passengers. An application from Auto Haulage, Ltd, of 433 Ferry Road, Christchurch, for an amendment to its goods service licence to permit the cartage of caravans within the South Island was refused. The licensing authority adjourned the hearing cf the same firm’s application for the cartage of forklifts and parts within the South Island with exemption from rail restriction. The application will be heard at the next sitting of the authority in Timaru. Brain George Kinloch, trading as Kinloch Cartage Ltd, was granted an amendement to his goods service licence for the cartage of prefabricated portal frames to and from the Nos 8 and 10 Transport Districts with exemption from rail restriction.
