'Gang Show’ retains appeal
By MARIA SCOTT ‘ Gang Show ‘77” opened in the James Hay Theatre last evening — and after 13 years the show does not seem to have lost its appeal to those who support it. the audience had its fair share of parents and brothers and sisters but snatches of conversation during the interval showed that a number of followers had; come along, even though their sons no longer participated. - The “Gang Show" has been put on by scouts all over the world since the 1930 s and lasts on a recipe of “good clean fun.” Last evening's show was no exception. The variety acts incorporated singing,' dancing, and sketches, with
an occasional healthy moral thrown in. I Peppered with strong > young New Zealand accents I as well as the deeper voices : of the older members of the I cast of 93, the whole show was given enthusiastically. ;; turning and ' Many hours have obvi- ■ ously gone into the costum- ' ing and set-building, and the . acts followed smoothly one 'lafter another. * ' The show lasted a good Three hours, but the en- . thusiasm for the massed i singing at the end seemed , even stronger than at the j opening. The show ended in true; i scouting style with “God I • Defend New Zealand.” ,! Performances will continue i until September 3.
