Mr J. I. Lysaght life member

A former president of the Geraldine Trotting Club, Mr J. I. Lysaght, was elected a life member at the club’s annual meeting on Wednesday evening.

Mr Lysaght, who did not seek re-election .on the committee, because he has moved from Geraldine to live in Christchurch, served for a term as vice-president, and was president from 1963 to 1968. He later became the club’s treasurer, and now ioins Mr E. McNab as the club’s only life members. The retiring president (Mr A. J. Waller) paid a tribute to Mr Lysaght’s work and said that he was a man with a great love for trotting and the Orari course.

Tributes were also paid to Mr Waller who steps down as president after nine years.

Mr Waller said that the club’s course was in excellent order, and he expressed regret at the club’s failure to get an extra permit for the coming season. This, he said,

was very disappointing in view of the club’s stake structure, and the large number of horses in the area.

The club’s new president is Mr J. F. C. Chisholm. A motion was carried criticising the proposed cuts in race broadcasts, Mr E. Hunt saying that he was sure that many people would prefer race commentaries to much of the material being presented on radio.
