Top sire injured
PA Auckland Sovereign Edition, the leading thoroughbred sire in Australia and New Zealand, standing this new season at a fee of $6OOO, has had to be withdrawn from stud service. Sovereign Edition ruptured a tendon in a hind leg when tangling with a fence early this week and the injury has precluded his being used for stud purposes this season. The veterinary prognosis is for an eventual recovery’, perhaps in time for the next breeding season starting in the spring of 1978. After the successful French-bred Gabador, Sovereign Edition has made a great name for himself at Ra Ora Stud, East Tamaki, these last few years. He has sired, among a host of big winners, the champion Australian filly of last season, Surround, "as well as her great rival. Savoire.
