NZPA Goodwood. The Irish trainer. Vincent O’Brien, set a prize money record for a British horse racing reason when his American-bred Be Mv Guest won the Waterford Crystal Mile at Goodwood on Saturday
Be My Guest, the 6 to 4 favourite. ridden bv Lester Piggott won by a head from Don. to land the £17.013 ($31,000) first prize for his owner. Diana Manning It was O’Brien’s seventeenth success of the British season and took his winnings to <■399 250 ($725,000) beating the record set by Peter Walwyn in 1975 Don. ridden bv Pat Eddery, made a game effort to catch Be Mv Guest in the final furlong and Piggott admitted later: “I thought It was verv close.” Be Mv Guest, a chestnut colt. l« hv Northern Dancer out of What a Treat.
