‘Drop Taiwan’
Senator Edward Kennedy has called for'ending diplomatic relations with Taiwan to pave the way for fullscale ties with mainland China, the New York Times news service reported. Speaking of Taiwan and the Chinese Government established there by General-i issimo Chiang Kai-shek after; he was driven from the! mainland by victorious com-! munist forces, the Mass-! achusetts Democrat declared: “We must end our military presence there, and our formal diplomatic relations with the island.” 1
