PA Rotorua An Auckland leading hand who had admitted forging dates on the passports and entry .permits of two Fijian Indians was sentenced to six months .periodic detention and fined $3OO by Mr Justice Chilwell in the Supreme Court at Rotorua yesterday. The accused, Jai Ram, had admitted four charges of forgery and. two of false pretence when arraigned before his Honour in the Supreme Court at Auckland last week, and was remanded to Rotorua for sentence.
His Honour said there were many credit points in Ram’s favour, but he had taken $lOO each from two of his countrymen when asked if he could help them with extensions of their entry permits. The forgeries by Ram had indicated that the one-month permits were valid for four months, said his Honour. Ram was sentenced to six months periodic detention on each of the forgery counts, the terms to be concurrent, and was fined $5O on each of the six charges.
