W.M.C. bowls won by Avis

With a deserved 13-5 win over Ken Avis in the final, Frank Chapman won the Christchurch Workingmen’s Club triples indoor bowls tournament.

After six ends, Chapman led, 5-3, then produced a fine draw shot to take the jack back for three shots and followed with a two on the eighth end to suddenly be ahead. 10-3. Last year, Chapman beat Shirley’s Euan South in the final. In the semi-finals, Chapman beat Des Hobby, 12-5, and Avis beat Earl Chanev, 11-1.

Nineteen teams qualified for post-section play from the 60 teams entered.

Quarter-finals: E. Chanev 10 W. Dennett 4; D Hobby JI, R Ludbrook 8: F. Chapman 7, M Penfold 6; K. Avis 9. S. Wicks 7 Semi-finals: Avis 11, Chanev 1 Chapman 12, Hobby 5. Final: Chapman 13, Avis 5.
