A viticulturalist with a sound knowledge of experimental method is required to undertake trials on aspects of viticulture, particularly varietal testing, nutrition, training, grafting, clonal selection and virus testing (field) disease control, rootstock evaluation. Appointee will be based at Ruakura but responsible for trials in other districts. Duties also include control and supervision of technical staff engaged in viticultural trials, provision of assistance and advice to other scientific staff on matters related to experimental programmes at Te Kauwhata Research Station and participation in training programmes for members of the grape growing industry as required. Qualifications desired: B.Sc. (Hons) or M.Sc. (Hons) or equivalent in horticultural science, botany or plant physiology. An interest in practical aspects of viticulture essential. Some experience in the field desirable. Further training in viticulture may be arranged on taking up appointment. W3450 STEVEDORING SUPERVISOR SOUTHERN PORTS A STEVEDORING SUPERVISOR is required for duties at the ports of Bluff, Dunedin and Timaru. The duties will primarily involve the supervision of stevedoring of conventional vessels at these ports but will also include relieving periods as Superintendent of the Company’s Seacargo Terminal at Dunedin. The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning, supervision and control of the stevedoring of vessels assigned to him. This will include liaison with Masters, the co-ordination and efficient utilisation of plant and equipment and other functions relative to efficient stevedoring. Applicants should hold a Master’s Foreign Going Certificate and recent seagoing service and/or stevedoring experience is desirable.
