The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons has accepted a programme of regional recognition in place of the previously granted local hospital accreditation. The central region of New Zealand has gained such recognition from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for regional training. Applications for Registrar positions within the central region are invited. The following categories of positions are available: 1. SENIOR REGISTRARS (Annual Appointment): For Registrars with a Fellowship of one of the Royal Colleges, vacancies exist in: Cardiothoracic Surgery (1) Neurosurgery (1) Orthopaedic Surgery (1) Plastic Surgery (1) Urology (1) 2. ACCREDITED TRAINEE REGISTRARS — General Surgery: (a) Junior Registrars (2-year appointment) 8 (3) For Registrars in basic training preparing for Part I F.R.A.C.S. '’’>) Registrars (4-year appointment)* (8) For Registrars preparing for Part II F.R.A.C.S. A six-monthly rotation including General Surgery (at base and provincial hospitals), Orthopaedics and another surgical specialty. Appointees will be given a detailed programme of rotation on appointment. The University Department of Surgery will take part in this “General Surgical Rotation.” The number of participants in training is determined by the regional need for consultants in General Surgery. * All appointments renewed annually subject to satisfactory performance. 3. REGISTRARS FROM OVERSEAS (General Surgery) (3) Annual Appointment. Renewable annually for maximum of 3 years. These appointments are aimed at providing an opportunity for overseas graduates to train in New Zealand. Appointments may be made at any of the hospitals in the central region. 4. REGISTRAR POSITIONS IN SURGICAL SPECIALTIES: Annual Appointment. These positions are not included in the “General Surgical Rotation” but are recognised by R.A.C.S. as specialist training positions. It is possible that appointees may have a general surgery tearm arranged. Posts are available in: Cardiothoracic Surgery (1) Neurosurgery (1) Ophthamology (1) Orthopaedic Surgery (2) Oto-Laryngology (1) Plastic Surgery (1) Urology (1) Applicants must state clearly for which category of the post they are applying. Conditions of Employment are in accordance with the New Zealand Hospital Service Determination for Medical Officers. The current salary scale applicable is $10,074-513,353 per annum (maximum without higher qualification $12,250). Single accommodation is available.
