Death of former matron
Miss Dorothy Isabelle Buchanan, a former president of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association, died in Greymouth on June 23. She was 78. Miss Buchanan trained at the Christchurch Public Hospital, moving to Hamilton Hospital as tutor sister in 1930. In 1939 she became Matron of the Kew Hospital, Invercargill, where she remained until ill health forced her retirement in 1952.
For part of this period Miss Buchanan was also superintendent of the Southland Hospital Board. She spent her retirement in Christchurch, moving to the West Coast twn mnnthc
