$8000 for research
Grants and gifts of more than $BOOO have been given to the. University of Canterbury for research. ■ The National Water and i Soil Conservation Organisation has given up to <54900, over three years to finance research into gravel movements by’ floodwaves. This study will be done by the university’s civil engineering department. A grant of $1550 has been [given by the South Pacific: i Commission for a geography student to examine factors influencing the intensity of village agriculture on Niue Island. The student, Mr G. Mitchell, is working on a! masters thesis.
The Building Research Association has renewed its grant of $2OOO for research into “rational design for fire.”
The university library’ has received a gift from Christchurch Boys’ High Schoo) of 74 British Navy' Records Society books, published between 1895 and 1938.
