H.S.O.B. open to ‘outsiders’
High School Old Boys, up until now the only closed cricket dub in New Zealand, is to open its doors to any player wishing to join. This decision was reached at a special meeting of the elub last evening. Previously, only pupils and masters of Christchurch Boys’ i High School were eligible to play [for the club. I The main arguments in favour [ of opening up the club were the lack of finance and a shortage of young players leaving Christchurch Boys' High School and joining the club. ... On the other hand, it was suggested that opening the elub would do little to ease the financial difficulties and would destroy the club's identification with Christchurch Boys’ High School. It was agreed that no more than 40 per cent of the club membership should be made up of "outsiders.” The meeting also decided that alterations to the club pavilion at Hagley Oval should begin at the end of July. The renovations will take around two months to complete and will cost about $20,000.
