Armstrong wins table tennis
Th« experience of the veteran table tennis player. John Armstrong (Riccarton). enabled him to recover from being two games down to beat Les Stewart (Avonside) in the final of the South Canterbury table tennis championships at Timaru at the week-end.
Armstrong lost the first two games. 15-21, 14-21, but won tile next three, 21-11. 22-20. 21-15, to record a fine win. He also combined witl) the Canterbury No. 2 player. Maurice Burrowes, to beat Richard Dixon and Yee Chow Boi in the final of the men’s doubles. in straight games. Gillian L'nderdown beat Thelma May in three games to win the women’s singles title, but lost in the final of the doubles to Pam Shadbolt and Christine Kehoe in five games. The only surprise results of the day came when Michael Hamel beat Burrowes and Dixon beat Yee Chow Boi in the quarter-finals.

Armstrong beat M. Hamel and S. Armstrong, 21-18. 21-16. 21-17. Final: Burrowes and Armstrong beat Dixon and Yee. 21-11. 21-15. 21-8. Women’s singles.—Semi-finals: G.
