U.N. and Uganda

Sir, — The United Nations refusal to act against Uganda shows its double standards — one for white anti-communists, and one for communist and black atrocities. It completely ignores the mass killings and denial of rights in black and communist countries, while criticising and acting against Israel, Chile, South Africa and Rhodesia. This is no coincidence. These countries are opposing communist expansion. Each is under a form of communist attack and their crime is that they are resisting. While ignoring Uganda, the United Nations is imposing censorship. The Rhodesian information centres are to be closed. Obviously the Rhodesian Government is convincing too many people of the rightness of its fight. Why else should they be forcibly silenced? In justice, each side of an argument has the right to be heard. However, it is increasingly obvious that justice is an alien concept to the United Nations. — Yours, etc.,

E. SUTHERLAND. June 7, 1977.
