60-knot winds at Lyttelton
Winds gusting to 60 knots had the spume flying and windows rattling around Lyttelton yesterday. It was the second big blow In two weeks—the last time gusts of up to 70 knots were recorded at the signal tower. The storm struck suddenly, and just before 10 a.m. an after line on the Hobart Star parted. However all other shipping managed to weather the blast without Incident, although the Coastal T-ader was delayed from sailing for Dunedin for about three hours.
