100 years old yesterday
Mr Daniel David Buckley, pictured at left with his daughter, Mrs N. V. Morel, celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday at the Mary Potter wing of Calvary Hospital. Born at Rakaia Beach, Mr Buckley later farmed at Highbank and Herbert. He was chairman of the Highbank School for a number of years and also a director of the Mount Hutt Dairy Company, Ltd. He married Miss Norah Hickey in 1907. They had six children, all of whom were with Mr Buckley yesterday.
Mr Buckley has 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Among his birthday gifts were a bottle of port wine and a pipe — two pastimes he still enjoys. As for the secret of long life? Good breathing.
