Tribute to chess competition
Heaton Intermediate, one of the 12 schools to enter the inaugural chess teams’ competition sponsored by “The Press” in 1971 and one which has been represented every year, is the second intermediate school to enter this year’s competition. In entering his team in the tournament, the Heaton chess master (Mr David Falcon) thanked “The Press” for continuing the competition. “It is the best stimulation to the game that we have seen in Canterbury,” he said. Entries have been a little slow arriving this year and they close this week.
