Success for I.B.M. man

1 A member of 1.8. M. N.Z., Ltd, Christchurch staff has been instrumental in designing and writing a programme specially for New Zealand. Mr John Wright of Christchurch was one of three 1.8. M. N.Z. staff who created the new programme which is now being used throughout 1.8.M.’s operation in Australia and South East Asia.

The system is designed to run on I.B.M’s low cost System 32 and also the recently introduced System 34.

1.8.M.’s integrated management accounting system, known as 1.M.A.5., is aimed specifically at the distributing manufacturer.

“It’s a unique application,” comments 1.8.M.’s general systems support manager, Mr Graham Page, who helped design the new system “because the New Zealand business scene is different in so many ways.

“For example, the New Zealand manufacturer often distributes his own products in addition to making them.

“At the same time, the New Zealand manufacturer mav make thousands of different items instead of concentrating on perhaps only five products or components,” said Mr Page.

Two other New Zealanders designed the new system; Messrs Dave Hill and John Wright. I.M.A.S. is an integrated group of data processing applications covering order entry and invoicing, inventory control, debtors, sales analysis, accounts payable, and general ledger.

Mr Page emphasised the importance of the system on a “cross industry” basis, meaning that the new system can operate in many different types of industries.
