N.I. chess
PA Wellington The North Island chess title was won yesterday by Lindsay Corntord (Gisborne). Vernon Small (Canterbury) won the event and the $2OO first prize but not the title, as he is not a North Island resident. With the win, he also earned automatic entry to the national championship a’t Christmas. Four players, M. Evans (Wellington), M. Steadman (Auckland), L. Whitehouse (Hamilton) and H. Bennett (Auckland) tied lor third and fourth prizes, for third and fourth prizes. Special prizes were won by V. Small.
