Storm hits ship
PA Auckland A storm-battered container ship Austral Ensign reached Auckland showing obvious damage to a number of the containers. Her mast was also bent back during the encounter with bad weather near Cuvier Island on Wednesday. Westerly gales, rough seas, and a heavy southerly swell forced her to heaveto for about 10 hours off the coast of New Zealand. She arrived at Auckland from the United States about 1 p.m. with a cargo of empty containers. She will be berthed at j Wynyard wharf until rei pairs are made.
