'I Rugby league. — Auckland’s 1 Amco Cup rugby league match , against Northern Division, I scheduled for this evening at Leichhardt Oval, Sydney, has been postponed because of the air traffic controllers’ strike. It will be played later this season. Tennis India has withdrawn from the Federation Cup, the women’s world team tennis championship, scheduled for Eastbourne, England, next month. No reason has yet been officially given. But it seems likely that India has Withdrawn because South Africa plans to take part. Ice hockey.—Czechoslovakia retained the world ice hockey tiUe in Vienna with a helping hand from Roland Eriksson, the Swedish shooting ace of the Minnesota North Stars. Eriksson fired in three goals as Sweden beat Russia 3-1 In the final game of the tournament. The Russians needed only a tie to clinch the title. Cricket—David Clark, 58-year-old former Kent captain, will take over from W. “Tadge” Webster as president of the M.C.C. in October, it was announced in London. Clark, whose appointment was announced at the M.C.C.’s annual general meeting, captained Kent between 1949 and 1951 and was manager on two M.C.C. overseas tours. Soccer.—The International Football Federation (F.1.F.A.) has threatened to break relations with the Asian Football Confederation if it did not reinstate Israel within 90 days. F.I.F.A.’s decision was taken during the fourth “round table on world football” at Monte Carlo presided over by its president, Mr Joao Havelange. Ice-hockey: Standings in the world ice-hockey championship, after the latest matches: Czechoslovakia 15; Soviet Union 14: Sweden 12; Canada 11; Finland 10; United States 7; West Germany 5; Rumania 2. Soccer.—Wellington Diamond United has announced a fivefigure sponsorship deal with Maruman, a manufacturer of cigarette lighters and watchbands. The exact amount of the deal was not revealed. It will run until the end of 1979.
