Loan for housing project
Parliamentary reporter A Housing Corporation loan of $35,000 for a Christ church City Council rental housing project for the eld erly has been accounced by the member of Par 1 iament for Lyttelton (Miss C. E. Dewe). The loan which has beer approved by the Minister of Housing (Mr Holland) is for 10 single pensioner units at 203 Opawa Road. The loan is in addition to a subsidy of up to $75,890 sanctioned last October, and the project is now totally Governmentfinanced. j Adult apprentices from the Christchurch Technical Institute are building the units, which will be constructed at the institute and transported to the site. Miss Dewe said that the council had built a record 160 pensioner units in the last financial year, and approval had been grven to another hundred. It was therefore. the largest user of the SIOM allocated for this work by the Government in those 12 months.
