Capping charity named

The Canterbury Multiple Sclerosis Society has been named by the University of Canterbury? Students’ Association as the recipient of this year’s Capping Day charity appeal. This was announced yesterday by the Capping Controller (Miss Mardi Lewis) who said that the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be given the proceeds from the charity appeal, conducted by the university’s 7400 students, to go towards the purchase of a wheelchair transporter and other patient services. The vice-president of the society (Mr C. W. Deibert) said that the students’ decision had been greeted with enthusiasm by persons suffering from multiple sclerosis in the Canterbury area. “This is a great boost to our work, especially as it is clear evidence of the desire of fit young people to help other young people, for multiple sclerosis is t disease of the young. There are more than 3000 people in New Zealand with multiple sclerosis and the effort by the students here will also encourage them,” Mr Deibert said.
