Oils by Tauranga artist

An exhibition of oil paintings by a Tauranga artist, Anthony Warnes, has opened in the Nova Gallery. It is the first time Mr Warnes’s paintings have been shown in the South Island, although they are collected in the North Island and some have found their wav into private collections in Zurich, Paris, and New York. Mr Warnes has been painting professionally for 12 years, but his first drawings were accepted by the Walt Disney organisation when he was only seven. His favourite of the 15 paintings in the exhibition is “La Mer,” which is shown in [the photograph. i “I live near the sea in TauIranga, and I love it,” Mr ’Warnes said. He spent many hours each week on long I walks, beachcombing, and ifishing.

All the works on show have been painted within the last three years.
