Knight gets insignia in hospital
PA New' Plymouth The New Plymouth horticulturist, Sir Victor Caddy Davies, yesterday became the first New Zealander knighted in the New Year honours list to receive his insignia and citation. By special dispensation, the presentation was made at the Taranaki Base Hospital by the Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr D. V. Sutherland). Sir Victor, aged 89, a Knight Bachelor, is a patient in the hospital and would have been unable to attend the Royal Investiture in Wellington next Monday.
Sir Victor was cheerful and alert at a family gathering as Mr Sutherland told him that the Queen had asked him to give Sir Victor her very best wishes for a speedy recovery.
