PA Auckland 1 Bastion Point protesters .have been asked by the Mayor of Auckland (Sir Dove-Myer Robinson) not to erect a building on the land. “They will force a confrontation with the council," (he said yesterday. “They i can’t put up a building withjout a permit and we can’t |issue one to people who are illegally on that land.” I The protesters plan to ierect a large building of {wood and corrugated iron to I protect them during the winiter. It will act as a comJmunal meeting place and will sleep about 200. The Mayor said the coun|cil woud make the protesters demolish the building. ■The law must be upheld I whether there was sympathy for them or not. ' “We think we are making [great progress with the Government and everything will probably turn out all right. The Government will probably abandon its proposals to sell and subdivide the, land,” said Sir Dove-M. er. 1
