Exciting draw at Bridgetown
[NZPA-Reuter Bridgetown Pakistan nearly pulled off the impossible with a wicketgrabbing spree that dragged the West Indies to the brink of their first test cricket defeat at the Kensington Ovan for more than 40 years.
The West Indies, apparently cruising comfortably to victory on Thursday afternoon, were suddenly fighting for their lives as Pakistan's pace trio seized eight wickets for 95 runs to send them spinning from 142 to one to 237 for nine.
Only a desperate rearguard . .tion forced a draw and saved the West Indies from their first defeat in [Bridgetown since England won in 1935. Andy Roberts, the injured Vanburn Holder and Colin Croft hung on griml.; for an hour and 46 minutes to carry West Indies to 251 for nine when the match ended.
| They needed 306 to win (after bowling out the tourists , for 291 in the second inpings lon Thursday. In the first [innings Pakistan scored 435 and the West Indies 421. Sarfraz Nawas. Imran Khan and Saleem Altaf also showed that in the pace division they can be as dangerous as anyone the West Indies can produce, at least on a wicket which on Thursday made the odd ball shoot through very low.
