A 34-year-old man pleaded not guilty to two charges of possessing indecent films, and two charges of hiring The films to another person, when he appeared in the Magistrate's Court yester- ' day. ; Howard Finch Lewis (Mr!: 'A. 'Ous sexual acts, and one film 'showing sexual acts between ' a male and female. , Lewis is also accused of possessing an indecent film. ■ “Rapture of Love." and other films portraying vari- , ous sexual acts. Evans.; S.M.) ii I THEFTS FROM CARS i] Two of three men who'; were among offenders who , stole property worth more | than $25,000 from cars dur- , ing January were both sentenced to terms of six [months periodic detention [yesterday. ] Ross Thomas Robinson,], aged 18. and Lloyd William Reeves, aged 20, had both]' previously pleaded guilty to] charges relating to thefts from cars. Reeves was con-', victed on seven charges of? theft and Robinson on nine]] charges of theft and one of I; burglary. Reeves had also] been convicted on charges of] stealing two sheep, on different occasions, from a|; farm near Kaiapoi. Robinson was also put on , probation for a year and disqualified from driving for six months. A third defendant, Ralph Lionel Joyce, aged 32, who (had pleaded guilty to similar [offences, was further re[manded in custody to Febru-! ary 28 when he appeared] [yesterday. The Court was! 'told that he wished to I change his pleas to ones of] not guilty. As his present. ] [counsel wished to withdraw,] 'the defendant needed time to; I instruct a new solicitor. The Court had previously| [heard that Reeves and an al-j sieged co-offender stole two! [sheep, which they took to! the Waimakariri River and; slaughtered. They took the! ■; carcases home, and put them ! [in a freezer. Other thefts had been] ! from cars, and included pro-;
perty such as sheepskin ]rugs, petrol, food, cheque- ! books and womble toys. The Court had heard that more than $25,000 worth of property was taken from cars by these and other offenders during January. STOLE CARS A youth who, with two associates, stole a $3200 car which was later found by the police pushed over a cli*’ at. Purau. was sentenced ito six months periodic detention yesterday. George Moanaroa Kidwell, aged 17, unemployed, was also put on probation for a , year and ordered to pay '5186.51 in restitution. He had previously pleaded I guilty to two charges of [burglary and one of car con- ' version.
