Union talks behind closed doors
PA Timaru Representatives of the Meat Workers’ Union voted yesterday to hold their annual national conference, at Timaru, in secret. Before the conference was officially opened the national president (Mr A R. Paenga. of Gisborne) put forward a resolution that the press be excluded from the whole conference, except for the opening ceremony. No undertaking was given to provide statements. The new general secretary' (Mr A. J. Kennedy) has refused to comment about whether he will question alleged irregularities in the election for the post. He said it was up to the conference to decide what would happen.
