Skateboarding parks planned

PA Wellington A skateboarding park, with facilities for competition and instruction, will be built in Christchurch if the plans of an Auckland industrialist, Mr Bruce Maiden go ahead. Mr Maiden, owner of the Rub-a-dub car-wash chain has embarked on a SI.2M project to provide skateboard parks in Auckland, the North Shore, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, according to a press release.

Mr Maiden is building a skateboard park in Hawaii, and the New Zealand parks will be similar.

The plans show facilities for competitive racing, freestyle riding and instructions on slalom courses, bowls, pipes, steps and hairpins.

Plans for the first New Zealand park, in Auckland, are now being drawn up. It will cover two acres and cost $250,000.
