Play gear to be tested after fatality
PA Dunedin The height of climbing bars and ground surfacing of all playground equipment in Otago primary schools will be reviewed by the Otago Education Board after the death of a seven-year-old Wanaka schoolbov last month. The bo>’ died after falling from 7ft high climbing bars. At a board meeting a report revealed that the fatality was accidental and was not the result of un safe eqnuipment or lack of supervision by teachers The boy was treated at. the scene and admitted to Cromwell Hospital for observation. After his con dition got worse he was flown to Dunedin where he died. Loose gravel had been under the playground equipment, but it had gradually been swept aside by constant usage of the frames.
