Pandora cruises in
Pandora, owned by Malcolm Field and John Saville, came from behind to .win the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club’s first division race to Wakaroa Point and back to Lyttelton on Saturday. In ideal north-easterly conditions. Raider (John Cathcart) led for the first half of the course before being overtaken by Pandora and he eventually finished 9min behind the winner. . Raider was also required to hold off a belated challenge from Imp (Alan Archer) as the fleet returned up the harbour, managing to do so by only 25sec. Pandora’s decisive margin was sufficient to earn it handicap honours,
ahead ?jof Cavalier IT (Alan Reay) "and Raider. However, it was Archer’s yacht which did best around the harbour buoys on Sunday, returning a line honours and handicap double. Field and Saville completed a successful week-end with the second placing on handicap. The comparatively small Cybele (Fred Cady) kept up with its bigger rivals to be the second division handicap winner on Saturday, although Crusader (Keith Drayton) was the frontrunner throughout. Ross Bassett (Saga II) matched Archer’s feat, when he was first to finish and on handicap in his division on
Sunday. Cady claimed the handicap runner-up position in Cybele. Results.— First division—Saturday: Pandora (M. D. Field and J. W. Saville) 1, Cavalier II (A, N. Reay) 2, Raider (J. M. D. Cathcart) 3.
